Blog Building: How to Auto-Syndicate Your Content to Readers – OnlyWire, Ping.fm and Twitterfeed – Pt. 2

This is a continuation to the last post yesterday on Blog Building – How to Auto-Syndicate Your Content to Readers – Ping.fm and Twitterfeed – Pt. 1

Stage D – OnlyWire (Push+)

OnlyWire is another auto-syndicating service pretty much like Ping.fm. The difference between the 2 are:

  • OnlyWire is able to Pull & Push at the same time.
  • OnlyWire requires a plugin installed on your blog to work.
  • OnlyWire requires an add-on to be installed on your Firefox browser to work properly.
  • OnlyWire publishes to some social networks that Ping.fm does not.
  • OnlyWire may require an additional ‘Finalization’ for social networks like Digg and Reddit.

Before using OnlyWire, you need to know that due to the nature of the plugin working in the background, activating the plugin on your blog can result in slower loading of your site. You also need to keep your Firefox browser (with OnlyWire add-on installed) opened for as long as possible so OnlyWire is able to successfully ‘Pull & Push’ your content to the social networks.

Currently, OnlyWire had no extension support for IE, Chrome, Opera or any other web browser besides Firefox. So, you need to have Firefox installed on your computer for OnlyWire to work properly. The positive is OnlyWire is perhaps the only auto-syndication service that allows you to publish content to Digg and Reddit.

Digg and Reddit content publishing includes captcha type confirmation so you need to login to your OnlyWire account to complete the posting. This process is known as ‘Finalization’. As a result, though you are able to publish content to such social networks, the process is semi-automatic.

Onlywire is ad-supported if you like to use the service. A paid subscription is required for non ad-supported usage.

If you do decide to go ahead and use OnlyWire, you need to:

  1. Setup your account at https://onlywire.com/signup.
  2. Install and activate the plugin for OnlyWire (self-hosted WordPress only) or and the OnlyWire Bookmark & Share button on your blog.
  3. Install the Firefox add-on for OnlyWire in the background.
  4. Setup the appropriate social networks to publish to in OnlyWire.

If you have any other social bookmarking plugins like AddThisaddtoany or ShareThis installed on your blog, you should disable them and just use the OnlyWire plugin. As another reminder in case you missed my earlier note, disable any other plugins you have install on your site that posts to social networks you have already setup in either Twitterfeed, Ping.fm or OnlyWire.

After setting this up, your rough auto-syndication map should look like this.
